Every week or so, we feature one of the many talented “Arts Center Kids!”  This week, we are featuring the adorable Abby Russ.  I had the immense pleasure of working with her mom, Jen Russ, in “The Who’s Tommy” this past Spring.

Abby HeadshotAbby Russ, age 5, has been a student in the Arts Center’s Creative Arts Preschool program since moving to Asheville from Northern Virginia in 2007.  In addition to attending pre-school five days per week, Abby also enjoys taking various dance classes at the Arts Center, including: ballet, tap, and most recently, Irish dancing.  Her love of and enthusiasm for the performing arts has been strongly formed by her experiences here.  Learned dances make their way into her living room; new Kindermusik songs are song continuously throughout her home; her daily activities become part of a musical written by, directed by, and starring Abby.

Abby’s favorite food: Macaroni and cheese

Favorite Disney Princess: Ariel

What she wants to be when she grows up: Artist and Playwright

Abby is enjoying her summer learning how to swim and looks forward to starting kindergarten at Vance Elementary.

Abby’s parents are Jen and Jason Russ.  Jen is a stay-at-home mom, sings in the Chancel Choir at Central United Methodist Church, and recently started performing on-stage in local musicals such as Into the Woods and The Who’s Tommy.  Jason is a professional winemaker.  He owns Fox Hill Meadery – Asheville’s first meadery!  He enjoys his work immensely and loves introducing people to mead.
