Inclement Weather Notification

We are aware of the winter advisory in our area and are keeping the safety of the children at the top of our list.  The cast of Fiddler on the Roof has put together a great show for you and we are trying to hold off cancelling opening weekend until we know what the weather will do.

We will post an update at 1pm.  Please check back for information regarding classes, productions, and events.

The Academy and Jr. Company Return Victorious from The Junior Theater Festival

The Asheville Arts Center took its Academy and Jr. Company students to learn, compete, and audition at the Junior Theater Festival, the largest festival in the world dedicated to kids’ musical theater, this past weekend in Atlanta – and boy did they represent the AAC and WNC!

Stephen Schwartz presents awards

The Junior Company performed, “Alice and Wonderland, Jr.”, for which they received an award for “Best Acting.” Gavin Reep and Sarah Plaut were selected as All-Star Performers! Aislin Thompson was invited to audition for the MTI choreography DVD. She made it through all the call backs and will possibly be traveling to New York City this summer to film with other children from all over North America. Out of more than 1,600 children, five AAC students were invited to audition.

The Academy performed “Once on this Island, Jr.” in which Mary Katherine O’Donnell was selected as “Best Actress,” and Savannah Crespo and Lincoln Belford were selected as All-Star Performers.

The “All-Star Performers” got the opportunity to be directed and accompanied by one of Broadways most sought after musical directors, Seth Rudetsky. Rudetsky was the musical director for such Broadway shows as Dreamgirls, Chess, Hair, and more!

Contest EXTENDED – Win Season Tickets, And MORE!

Help Us

We’re starting a new contest TODAY!

Here at the Arts Center, you might have noticed that we perform a lot of plays. Seriously, it’s a lot.

And we want you, our students, teachers, parents, and anyone else who happens to be in our audience, to LIKE the shows we perform.

That’s where democracy comes in!

Submit the show that you’d most like to see or perform in the comments below. At the end of January By Valentine’s Day, the AAC staff will pore over your entries and narrow it down to a top five in different categories (The Academy, Jr. Company, community theatre, etc.).

We’ll then give you the top five so you can vote for your favorite!

Winners in each category will receive season tickets, special mention in our programs, and another mystery prize we’ll announce when we post the top five.

If more than one person posts a show, we’ll have to go with whoever posted it first… will it be you?

Thanks for your help. We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Also, catch an encore presentation of their Junior Theater Festival Performance NEXT WEEK! Come for our Open House on Friday the 22nd and see The Academy and Jr. Company students perform the material they had prepared for the festival. It starts at 6pm.

We’ll see you there!
