Carol Marin

Carol Marin, Music Instructor at the Asheville Arts Center

Carol Marin, Asheville native, returns from Chicago, where she studied, performed and taught for the past twenty-two years. Carol holds a master of music degree in vocal performance from Northwestern University and a bachelor of music from Converse College. For seventeen years Carol maintained an active voice studio in the Chicago area, teaching musical theatre, classical and popular vocal styles to students of all ages. She was a vocal instructor at the Metropolis Performing Arts Center, the Arlington Music School and was owner of the Center for Musical Arts. Several of her former students are now successfully pursuing Musical Theatre careers. While in Chicago, Carol performed with Light Opera Works, Grant Park Symphony and Piccolo Opera, directed the Northbrook Children’s Theatre and Grace Chapel Choir, was a judge for the Chicago NATS auditions, organized “Moving to the Music”, a musical theatre performance workshop, and developed a sight-singing course for use in the private voice studio.

Teaching Philosophy
There is no such thing as a one-size fits-all vocal technique. Each student brings a different set of experiences and a unique voice and talent. As a teacher, I try to create an atmosphere of mutual respect and open communication. It’s important that the student feels comfortable and free to experiment.
